I’m somewhat new the cake world – but through some things I do for work and children’s birthday parties I’m finding it’s become much more a part of my life than in year’s past. One of the moms at school is a baker and makes lovely cakes – so I’m picking up on some new info on cakes. I’ve been LOVING these naked cakes. Photo above – via Wed Shed | Photo by Mitch Pohl
I find the name to be a little bit odd – but it does make sense. These cakes in the last year or so have become bakery staples. They are denoted by their exposed layers and simple garnishes. Some cakes have no frosting on the sides – some have a little bit on the outer edge. Apparently the baking goddess Christina Tosi from Milk Bar made this trend happen.

Via Rock My Wedding – the couple actually made their own cake! It sounds delicious – it’s made of 3 different flavors – vanilla, apple&cinnamon and lemon & poppy seed.
I love the rustic look of these cakes – they have a casual look which I’m always a fan of. I’ve got to try one of these for my next special occasion! Have you ever tried making one of these? Let me know in the comments below!
